Court of Appeals
Meet Martin Moore
Martin Moore is ready to put his years of experience fighting for the people of North Carolina to work on the appellate bench. He is proud to be the youngest candidate on the statewide Democratic slate this year and will work to deliver just outcomes for every person who steps into our courts.
Raised by two working parents, Nadine and Michael, Martin learned the importance of public service at an early age. He is a proud graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the UNC School of Law. During his time in Chapel Hill, he worked with the North Carolina Supreme Court, NC Attorney General’s Office, and The Innocence Project.
He started his legal career as a public defender, helping Western North Carolinians through some of the toughest moments of their lives and fighting for just outcomes in the criminal justice system. He went on to practice at one of the largest firms in Western NC and fought for his clients in complex civil cases in state, federal, and appellate courts. Now, he runs his own law firm that focuses on appellate cases and mediation.
As a Buncombe County Commissioner and policymaker, Martin has seen first-hand the impact the Court of Appeals and Supreme Court have on the lives of North Carolinians. He recognizes the education, healthcare, and justice challenges our communities face and the pivotal role played by the courts in ensuring just outcomes.
Martin knows that fairness and impartiality aren’t just concepts: they require an active commitment to integrity and the rule of law and the promise that we will treat every person who steps into our courtrooms with dignity and respect. With years of experience in civil and criminal cases, he understands that the Constitution should protect all the people of North Carolina and that if we want equal justice under the law, we have to elect judges who are committed to integrity and transparency.
